Recent Terrorist Attacks in Mumbai

Quite a number of folks have asked if the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai have changed my plans to teach in India. The answer so far is clearly no. The U. S. State Department at this time is recommending only a "high level of vigilance" for Americans in India (http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/pa/pa_4398.html). I have also spoken to employees of the USEFI and friends in Delhi and Mumbai, all of whom encouraged me in my plans to come to India. Finally, Dr. Shashiah Shasthri of the National Law University in Jodhpur has also counseled us that the State of Rajasthan, even though bordering Pakistan, is free of the risk factors that characterize Mumbai.

India remains one of America's greatest friends in this part of the world and continues to deserve our support at this difficult time.
