Flags of Our Fathers
Just finished reading James Bradley's Flags of Our Fathers, the stories of the six Marines who were pictured raising the flag of the U.S. on Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima in 1944 in the iconic photo taken by Joe Rosenthal. A good book that emphasized the "common" nature of each of the men from their childhoods, the deaths of three of them in the continuing battle, and the post-WW II lives of the three survivors. One of the survivors, John Bradley, father of the author, lived in Antigo, Wisconsin, a small town where I litigated a complex commercial matter back in my lawyer days. The very ordinariness of the these men made the book all the more moving
