Crystal Cathedral Update

According to the Deal Pipeline, the Bankruptcy Judge presiding over the Crystal Cathedral bankruptcy signed a confirmation order approving the reorganization plan of Crystal Cathedral Ministries and approved the $57.5 million sale of the church's Garden Grove, California campus, The sale proceeds, along with cash on hand, will fund the reorganization plan, submitted on Aug. 9 by the unsecured creditors' committee.

The Religion News Service reported something more interesting here: the Vatican did not approve the offer to purchase until two weeks after the Diocese of Orange (County) made it. Apparently Pope Benedict wants to put a stop to building ugly Catholic cathedrals and has set up a new office to approve building plans. The RNS article also reports on the challenges of turning a turning a Protestant auditorium into liturgical space.
