Was directed to this rather innocuous piece at slate.com about the growth of evangelical Christianity in New England, long believed to be a hard-core non-Christian region. (HT Rachel P.) The article seems to be well balance, based on the author's personal investigation, and includes some counterpoint from Mainline church folk. All in all, nothing to get worked up about although worth keeping an eye on developments.
I usually read only the first several comments after a piece on the internet. This time I couldn't stop reading. But for one fellow who regularly responded with thoughtful comments, the overwhelming number of antagonistic and, well, generally mindless comments of those who seemed offended that anyone might believe in the Christian gospel was sad. Sure, comments on a blog are hardly an accurate gauge of anything but the opinions of folks with too much time on their hands. (Obviously not my readers!) But the simultaneously aggressive and thoughtless secularism that possesses so many demonstrates the continued dumbing down of American education. The cultured anti-Christian Unitarians and Transcendentalists of the 19th century would be embarrassed.

With a Contracts exam looming tomorrow, I won't say I have too much time on my hands. But this was a pleasant read as a break from staring at 2-207. Last sentence is true and priceless.
