Campbell University School of Law seeks outstanding applicants for up to three, entry-level or lateral, full-time, tenured or tenure-track, faculty positions. We welcome candidates in all subject areas, with a particular interest in filling curricular needs in criminal procedure, criminal law, trial advocacy, business and commercial law, and with a secondary interest in jurisprudence, professional responsibility, civil litigation, and administrative law. The positions are nine-month academic appointments that will begin in August 2023, at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor.

Campbell University School of Law seeks outstanding applicants for the position of Director of Trial Advocacy. Campbell Law has been recognized as one of the top advocacy teaching schools in the nation by both the ABA and U.S. News and World Report. At Campbell Law, all students are required to take Trial Advocacy, a doctrinal course split between weekly lectures and small performance sections. The Director of Trial Advocacy will continue Campbell Law’s tradition of training all graduates in the art of trial lawyering. The position is a nine-month, full-time, tenured or tenure-track, academic appointment that will begin in August 2023, at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor.
The Director of Trial Advocacy will direct and manage the law schools internal, required Trial Advocacy course and curriculum. This will include: (1) providing the overall direction for the required Trial Advocacy course, including developing institutional goals and objectives; (2) balance existing Trial Advocacy faculty with adjunct faculty to maximize student success and faculty development; (3) in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, recruit and select adjunct faculty to teach in the performance sections of Trial Advocacy as needed; (4) develop curriculum, select and/or develop problems, materials, and syllabi for the required Trial Advocacy course, (5) draft cases for students seeking specific areas of practice, including corporate law, real estate, wills/trusts & estates, employment law, and other specialty areas in addition to general civil and criminal litigation, (6) prepare comprehensive lesson plans and teaching notes for Trial Advocacy performance sections, (7) train adjunct faculty hired to teach in the Trial Advocacy performance sections; (8) monitor, supervise, and evaluate the instruction offered in Trial Advocacy, making appropriate changes as needed to accomplish the goals of the course; (9) develop grading and assessment rubrics that provide consistent grading across all performance sections; (10) develop and implement summative and formative assessments within the required Trial Advocacy course.
In addition to directing the law school’s required Trial Advocacy course, the Director of Trial Advocacy will also be expected to teach in areas that provide capstone opportunities for students, with an emphasis on civil practice, including advanced trial advocacy, discovery, advanced negotiations, arbitration, and related courses.
