Circus X 4

You’d think the Asiad circus is the greatest show on earth if our attending four performances over the course of four weeks is the gold standard of circuses. This Sunday saw LaDonna organize another outing, this one for the residents of Nav Jyoti Manovikas Kendra, a school for the mentally handicapped with a residential program for those who cannot live at home. LaDonna serves as a volunteer at Manovikas Kendra two or three times a week. Dr. G.M. Singhvi founded Manovikas Kendra; currently 85 students attend classes and 21 reside on-site. (Dr. Singhvi is also president of the Jodhpur-East chapter of the Lions Club; he and the other officers were meeting Sunday afternoon as well.) Sixteen residents as well as the warden of the girls’ hostel and her two children hopped on the bus with LaDonna and me (read: event photographer) and took the short ride to the circus where everyone had a good time in spite of the, shall we say, rather warm weather. (It’s been a short ride for nearly everyone we’ve taken to the circus; Astha, Lav-Kush, Manovikas Kendra, and the circus are all in the Chopasni District of Jodhpur.)

For those who live in the world of Fahrenheit, the next couple of days will see Jodhpur’s inexorable move to daily highs in the triple-digits. The humidity is extremely low so drinking plenty of water is a must. Evenings are quite pleasant but life here without a/c for us wimpy Westerners would not be possible.
