Saturday we took a cab to the home of Kamal and Pratriki. I had come to know Kamal in 2006 when we met at the Advocates Asia conference in Delhi. Kamal had been among those Indian lawyers who had urged me to return to India to teach, which, in turn, had served as an impetus to my pursuing a Fulbright Scholarship.
Members of their church have been meeting every evening except Sunday for prayer during Lent. Over 25 came on Saturday for a time of guitar-led singing, a message delivered by a lay member of the congregation, prayer, and a wonderful dinner. While we’ve enjoyed worshipping in Jodhpur, it was great to experience a time of focused Christian fellowship in English.
We spent the night with Kamal and Pratriki and then headed to their church Palm Sunday morning for worship including the Lord’s Supper. Bethel Methodist Church has services in Hindi and in English; we opted for English. We enjoyed the blessing of worshipping with Christians whose backgrounds and lives are quite different than ours but with whom we share a far-deeper unity in Christ.
