Let's Stick to Proud

In today’s inbox I received a devotional censuring “prideful” behavior. To be sure, prideful is a word but since when has it become the universal substitute (at least among Christian devotional writers) for the simpler “proud?” Five letters vs. seven. One syllable vs. two.  Shorter is better.

And, would anyone think of using “humilityful” instead of humble? I didn’t think so.
